Mee Ketam KL Restaurant in Shah - TopicsExpress

Mee Ketam KL Restaurant in Shah Alam ------------------------------------------------------ Crabs are a must-have for almost every seafood lover out there. Although it can be a hassle as one must either use a crab mallet, claw cracker, or simply bite the shell off to get through to the succulent crab meat, it is still a favourite! Located nearby UNiSEL in Section 7 Shah Alam, Restoran Mee Ketam Kuala Lumpur has an outdoor concept but seats are extremely limited at this warung-style restaurant. Moreoever, youre also right to believe that they have an outlet in KL, and its located in Dato Keramat for you KLites! When we visited them for dinner, the restaurant was incredibly crowded. So folks, you might have to wait for your seats. We’ve heard all about their signature dish, which was the mee kari ketam (crab curry mee RM9.50), so we decided to give it a try. Oh boy, presentation-wise it looked great with the whole medium-sized crab in it! We loved that the cooks had smashed the shell for us, hence digging in for the flesh wasn’t hard. Furthermore, the curry was heavenly as it was very well-seasoned. The generous amount of coconut milk used absorbed the sweetness of the crab, resulting in an even tastier broth! Nevertheless, we were a bit disappointed because it didn’t live up to the true definition of mee ketam, which should be embodied by a meaty crab. There were also frozen crabsticks in the curry, making it less authentic. Another specialty available at Mee Ketam KL was mee kari ketam nipah (mud crab curry mee, 300g for RM19.50), where the price varies according to its weight. Taste-wise, the curry was saltier compared to the normal mee ketam and we found out why - mangrove swamps being the source of these mud crabs give out a saltier flavour. In spite of the saltiness, the crab contained more meat in its claws and ultimately meatier. We also savoured their famous ketam masak pedas (crabs cooked in spicy gravy, RM9.50) and it didn’t look very appealing at first with its dull gravy, almost like taucu but with a thicker consistency. We thought it wouldn’t be that spicy because we couldn’t see any chillies in it, but oh dear we were wrong - it was super spicy! We could definitely taste the blended chilli padi and its peppery taste. Luckily, the white rice managed to tone the heat down. Nonetheless, it was delicious and spicy food lovers will definitely be coming back for more. Overall, we loved the curry mee more than the crabs but it was a messy experience in a good way. We also think that the prices were cheap for a bowl loaded with noodles and crabs, so you don’t need to fork out hundreds just for a good and hearty crabby goodness!
