Meet Bella our new patient.Like little Chip she had several prolapsed and bulging discs in her back and was completely paralysed in her hind legs.She had surgery to relieve the compression of her spinal cord and is now here on the long rehabilitation road.I have posted a video of her swimming so that you can she that she does have some voluntary motor function in her hind legs now.However on dry land she is still unable to support her own weight and only makes barely perceptible movements with her back legs.....so she is not able to walk at all and drags them behind her.Our work begins! She is coming in as a day patient twice a week.On these days as well as several short sessions in the pool with my colleagues the hydrotherapists,with Vethab we take her out every 2-3 hours to toilet her and express her bladder as necessary.She has laser treatment on her back and has massage and does passive range-of-motion exercises.These exercises will be continued at home the rest of the week.
