Meet Blue! He is an English/American Hybrid Parakeet. He is a warrior and one of our very special success stories. Blue came to us in critical condition, fluffed up and unable to move. He was rushed to the Medical Center For Birds for emergency medical treatment. As an English Budgie he should weigh anywhere from 40-60 grams, at only 25 grams he was literally feathers and bones. The vet advised us that this was the worst case of Avian Gastric Yeast they had ever seen and his outcome was questionable at best. Mickaboo assured the vet that we would do whatever they could to save this guy... And they did. They hospitalized him and began treating the AGY. Day-by-day he showed signs of improvement. He ate everything in sight and slowly gained weight. By the 7th day the vet gave him the green light to go home! He went home weighing in at 34 grams, almost 10 grams heavier! Just when we thought he was in the clear he began seizing in the middle of the night. He was rushed to the nearest emergency vet, but he had already been seizing for about 30 mins and it didnt stop when he arrived. The vet on staff thought it would be best to euthanize him, but Mickaboo knew if it was at all possible to calm him down enough to make it through the night MCFB would be able to help him. They gave him Valium which allowed Blue to rest for a while. First thing in the morning Blue was rushed to the MCFB as they waited in anticipation. The team sprang into action and immediately went to work trying to save Blues life. We said our goodbyes, uncertain if we would ever see him again. Unable to do anything we sat by the phone at the edge of our seats waiting for the call. After several days the phone rang, it was Dr. Cane on the other line, he let us know Blue was doing worlds better and could go home!!! They realized he had AGY and overcame it, he also had Chlamydia which caused the seizure and overcame it... Today he is living well and healthy and doesnt require any additional meds. He is a survivor!! Thanks to Mickaboo and the team at the Medical Center for Birds Blue is alive and well and ready to find his forever home. He now weighs 42-45 grams and he eats a healthy diet or organic pellets and veggies. Due to the seizure he has limited vision in one eye, but hes able to move around and enjoy himself simply walking in a low cage.
