Meet Emanuel ... dumped in Bald Hill (northeast of Okmulgee) ... how on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve can someone be so heartless to dump a poor, helpless animal. He was surely coyote bait, so one of our volunteers whipped into action. Her story: I drove there as quickly as I could with my trap, hot dogs and canned food. The women whos property he had been seen on said they lost sight of the little dog within the past 10 minutes. She walked down two telephone poles and saw the dog laying in the field. She approached with a hot dog, it ran away into the field, barking. She could tell it was either tired, or older as it had a slight limp. She circled wide and lay down military style in the field behind the dog. It didnt know she was there. Her coat matched the color of the field. She waited. It barked, walked, barked, walked forward. She crept forward trying not to make any noise, on her belly. Then she was about 20 feet away and it turned its head around and saw her and started running again. It was so matted and the thicket was everywhere. We in circles for about 5 minutes, as she continued to chase him into the thicket hoping he would get tangled enough to be caught. Sure enough, right before she passed out from running around, she was able to hold him down as he tried to nip at her. She waited a few minutes to catch her breath while holding him down. She slipped the lead over his head and picked him up slowly and walked to the car. Emanuel, is safe. Her hands are hurting from the burrs matted into his chest, feet and legs. His face is barely visible from the matts and burrs. This poor dog must be in pain from the burrs and matts. Into the car he goes, and back to Tulsa. He ate well, and settled down in his crate while she went to her Christmas dinner with family. Then later on, snip, snip, snip, off with the matts and burrs, with the help of a dear friend, Curtis. Emanuel slept through the night well, ate a good breakfast and is now at the groomer for his real bath and trim/shave job. He is slowly warming up to her touch. Stay tuned for his after picture. Hell be vetted today too. Emanuel is probably somewhere between 7 - 9 years old and weighs only 11 lbs. He is underweight and in dire need of a dental cleaning with probable extractions. He also needs to be neutered. Well get him all fixed up. Hang in there Emanuel. You have found the beginning of your rescue journey. Rest up.
