Meet Maxwell (Max for short). Max came to us from a bad situation. His family could no longer take care of him so they were ready to let him loose to run away. Very sad. A very nice college student saw this happening and stepped in to help find Max a place to lay his head. Fast action got him to us and he’s seen the vet already. He’s already neutered and we are waiting to hear from our vet in terms of how hold they think he is. He is sweet as sugar. We do know he came from a home with several small children and 2-3 cats. He also has met a few dogs with no reaction whatsoever. His foster mom just sent us an update after their first night and day together... We picked up Max last night and was thrilled with the welcome we got! Let me start by saying he is our first male foster and I was quite intimidated/impressed by his size when we first pulled up. But when I got out of the car and leaned down just the slightest bit to greet him and say hello he stretched his muscular neck and raised his enormous head up and licked my entire face with one swipe of his tongue! This beast of a boy is the gentlest of giants! The car ride home was no sweat for him. I offered him the open window but he preferred to curl up on the back seat and nap almost the entire way home. When we arrived after the long trip we figured hed be ready for a bathroom break and he had some energy after his nap so we went for a quick walk before going in the house. He does pull some with a regular collar, and I will stress again, he is a big boy! However, we picked up a harness for him today and he does much better with that but will still need a bit of work. Once in the house he explored everywhere and everything, including the cat, and settled in very nicely without incident. I have to say the cat was a bit disgruntled but Maxs demeanor is fantastic...the cat immediately puffed up and Max cocked his head and looked at him like he was insane then walked away to investigate other things! He was great with my kids....followed them around the house being nosy, gave them kisses and played ball with them for awhile. We saw no toy aggression and he continued to be the gentle giant even while playing. I also tested him at feeding time for aggression by shoving my hand right into his bowl while he was eating and again there was that cock of the head like insanity runs abound in this house! Hes a great boy! Someone spent some time training him well. He is completely housebroken, not even one accident in a strange new place! At 5 am he had to go out and he cried and walked all over me to wake me...have I mentioned what a big boy he is? Needless to say I got right up! He knows his basic commands very well also. Sit, down, stay and paw were accomplished first time we attempted. At meal time we showed him twice where to lay and he remained there for the duration. We took a trip to the vet today for his shots and microchip. Everyone adored him, there were tons of kisses, given AND received! He was great with everyone even through blood work and shots. We also encountered other dogs while there and didnt see any aggression. This guy is great! I know weve only had him approximately 24 hours now but I have yet to find a flaw!
