Meet “Missy”. She comes to us as an owner relinquish… last of litter that nobody wanted. This little Shepherd/Lab Mix is only 3 months and needs our help. We noticed that she seemed to have a lot of symptoms related to pneumonia and she was vomiting constantly. Her spirit was strong but her little body weak. Following examination and a series of barium xrays, it was discovered that she is suffering from a condition called Persistent Right Aortic Arch. PRAA is a congenital anomaly of the blood vessels of the heart that results in constriction of the esophagus. This causes Missy to regurgitate her solid food which in turn… malnourishment. Surgery is the best treatment option for her but we do not perform that specialty here at the AWL. We have found a vet hospital that can and they’ve quoted us $2,800-$3,000. We have Missy comfortable and are giving her only high vitamin, soft, liquid foods in very controlled portions. She has such a hearty appetite but she is being monitored closely. Help us help Missy. Her prognosis is good if we get her the surgery she needs as soon as possible.
