Clybourne Park (2010) is a play by Bruce Norris written in response to Lorraine Hansberrys play, A Raisin in the Sun. It portrays fictional events set before and after the Hansberry play and is loosely based on historical events that took place in the city of Chicago. As described by the Washington Post, the play applies a modern twist to the issues of race and housing and aspirations for a better life. The play was awarded the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play. The drama/comedy is written by Bruce Norris and is directed by Jason Collins. The cast includes Steve Harden as Russ and Dan; Evelyn Lynam as Bev and Kathy; Rhodie Jackson as Francine and Lena; Matthew Hodges as Jim, Tom and Kenneth; Patric Robinson as Albert and Kevin; Jan Peter Buksar as Karl and Steve; and Kristina Garcia as Betsy and Lindsey. The Story: Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageous acts set fifty years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. The show runs through Nov. 30. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets to regular shows are $25 per person. Free parking is available. For reservations, call the box office at 904-825-1164 or purchase online at limelight-theatre.org.
