Meet The Cast - StinkyKids the Musical Today were kicking off our new Meet the Cast feature where we introduce you to members of an upcoming Laguna Playouse Youth Theater (LPYT) show. We are thrilled to introduce you to one of the long time members of LPYT, Sydney Miller. Shes so talented, I even overheard another LPYT member refer to her as amaze-bo - one of the highest compliments a fellow actor can give. Sydney is 16 years old and has been a member of LPYT for 5 years. Take it away Sydney! I came to the playhouse because I had been acting and doing theater since 3rd grade and I started to really get an interest in acting. Before that I was just kind of doing musical theater and it was so much focused on the singing and dancing that it just kind of happened that one day I went, alright, I want to learn how to act. So I came to the playhouse, I auditioned, got in and thought Id give it a try. I think one of my favorite roles was in the Boxcar Children where I played Violet. It was a lot of fun because, first of all, a lot of the kids who were the four central kids in the family were my best friends and that was a lot of fun to kind of be closer to them. I also learned about the great depression. There was a scene where all the homeless children who were coming to the boxcar to get some bread and, I dont know, it was just a cool moment to kind of learn amd imagine what it was like to be back then. The playhouse has been a really cool experience for me because a lot of different people who do a lot of different things. We have a lot of runners in the program, we have kids who play tennis, other kids who are dancers, and they all just kind of unite under one passion for acting. Thats always been kind of cool. Also you get to learn a lot through the plays, some literature opportunities - I had never heard of Little Women until I was in the play. It was a great experience to learn it at such a great depth and just see how big of a following it had. And we went to the Museum of Tolerance for another play and that was just a great experience to see what it was like during WWII and what a big impact that was. It makes you have more respect for what we have now. Next year Im auditioning for a bunch of different schools for Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater, so this is definitely helping with that. It is giving me the bare necessities of how to act and how to approach things. But I think that the playhouse has already kind of helped me because it taught me a lot about responsibility and leadershihp. You have to have your lines perfectly memorized and if you dont it is not just impacting you it is impacting the entire scene, it is impacting all your other friends who are depending on you, so it is very much a team effort. I think Laguna Playhouse is kind of the place where you can let your imagination go free and fail gloriously and everything is accepted. So it is always great to come some place that is so open to you just trying everything you know and they are so willing to work with you and the ideas that you have. One day you are pretending to be a frog in the middle of a pond and the next day youre a lawyer trying to win over a case, you just get a wide experience of fun things to do. And you get to learn so much about yourself and how you handle situations along with the people next to you - it builds a lot of your character. Donna says that acting lessons are also lessons in life and I really agree with that.
