Meet Your PTA! Principal: Liz Burns What she does in PTA: She is one of our board members and is a key part of making sure we are all working together from the school side of things. About Liz: A third-generation Oklahoma educator, Childers Middle School Principal Elizabeth Burns holds two degrees from Oklahoma State University—a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and a Master of Science degree in curriculum supervision. Ms. Burns joined the staff of Broken Arrow Public Schools in the fall of 1978 teaching language arts for two years at Haskell Middle School before leaving to pursue a two-year term as a missionary-teacher of English in Taiwan. When Ms. Burns returned to the United States, she also returned to Broken Arrow and to Haskell where she remained as a language arts teacher until accepting a position as a teacher of journalism and English at Broken Arrow High School in 1993. In 1998, she returned to Haskell Middle School as an assistant principal and subsequently assumed the position of principal at Childers Middle School in 2000. Ms. Burns is a past recipient of the state PTA Outstanding Oklahoma Educator of the Year award as well as the Broken Arrow PTA Council Principal of the Year award.
