Meet school board candidate WENDE HANEY: Wende Ellison Haney (42) is a Hawkins High School graduate. She attended school at Hawkins ISD from kindergarten through her senior year (1989). After high school, she attended Texas A&M University and obtained a bachelors degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and then moved to the Dallas area where she worked as the Director of an Information Technology and Project Management Department. Wende and her husband Robert (who is also a Hawkins High School graduate, 1986) moved back to Hawkins from Frisco, Texas in 2003. They have three daughters, Lauren-18, Megan-12 and Madison-10, who have all been attending the Hawkins schools. Wende now works at Holly Lake Ranch Association. In her spare time she works with the Youth Group at Summit Heights Fellowship. She is also serving as the Basketball Coordinator for HYSI (Hawkins Youth Sports Inc.) and is Homeroom Mom for her daughter’s 5th Grade class. She has been a member of the Hawkins ISD School Board for the past 9 years, and served as President of the Board for 3 years. The primary reason for the Haney’s decision to move their family back to Hawkins was so that their children could have the same experiences growing up in the Hawkins community and schools. During her terms on the board they have accomplished many important tasks for the District. They passed and executed two successful bonds which included a new gymnasium, cafeteria, field house, remodeled classrooms and auditorium. She was also actively involved in the Strike Force Team which worked diligently to build the technology One-to-One Device program so that our students would have access to cutting edge technology giving them the ability to compete with other students in larger school districts. In addition to these accomplishments, she is also very proud of the great teachers that have been hired to staff our school and is committed to insuring that we always continue to support them and give them the resources they need to educate our children. She wants to continue serving as a member of the School Board so that she can have a voice in her children’s education. She does not have a specific agenda that she wants to accomplish during her term; she just wants the overall best for the school, which includes the educational programs, athletics programs, preservation of the campus, as well as sustaining the spirit and pride for our schools. Wende also wants to ensure that we have teachers who will encourage the students to strive and work hard to accomplish their goals and to get involved in the extra curricular activities, whether it is sports, academics, music, etc., that give our school the opportunities to stand out among the rest. Wende believes in the value of a public education and is dedicated to acting in the best interest of our school. If elected, she will continue to do her best to make the right decisions for our schools, our children and their futures. Wende respectfully asks for your vote on May 10.
