Meet the man who looks after Liverpools jet set VIPs It’s an unassuming building on the far reaches of Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, with no nonsense signage, leather sofas and a tray of complimentary foil-wrapped biscuits. But past the doors of Liverpool Aviation Services – and occasionally through them – have walked the most famous passengers in the world. The Queen, the Dalai Lama, Paul McCartney, Beyonce, Rihanna … not to mention the biggest superstars in sport. And for the past 13 years one man has made sure their arrival and departure has gone precisely to plan. Steve Barker is responsible for every detail, from trouble-free landings and take-offs to ice for private jet bars and late night snacks for tired celebrities. He is operations manager at Liverpool Aviation Services, which handles visiting aircraft and their VIP and business flyers. “We’re basically a one-stop shop, offering anything they need: landing permission, fuel, hotels, cars, catering, even newspapers for them to read on their flight out,” he explains. The anonymous lounge gives them somewhere to relax and some do take advantage of the free mini bar.
