**** Meet the member **** Meet Andrew Tucker Andy has been a member since early Jan. Hes now a big part of the team and is constantly smashing PBs. Hope you will be taking part in the Open next year Andy! Well done. My first experience of CrossFit was about 12 months ago when the rugby team I play for came and did a few sessions with Tony in prep for the forthcoming season. Once the season started I didn’t really think much more about CrossFit. However, when the season finished and Christmas was done I jumped on the scales and was mortified at my weight, I mean I knew I was heavy but I didn’t realise I was 118.5kg (18.5 stone), that’s the heaviest I’ve ever been. I needed to do something and do it quick so the diet started so did my CrossFit experience. The first session I attended was on the 4th January. I was pretty apprehensive as I’d always played team sports and I thought CrossFit was going to be a solo sport, how wrong could I have been…. Anyhow the first session started and I remember the warm up feeling like a full workout in itself. After recovering from the warmup we were then shown technique. I was really impressed with how Tony and Mel explained things. At the end we did a 10 min AMRAP. Now I was goosed and I’ve got to be honest the following days were painful, but sadistically I loved it and was back for more two days later. I was going 3 times a week and loving it, until I did my first WOD with a run in it!!! I knew that I hated running but this just reminded me how much. I think Tony must have seen my horror in my face and reassured me and explained that CrossFit is all about challenging yourself and improving on our weaknesses. Since then I’ve done many WOD’s with runs. I still hate it but can honestly say I’m improving. Don’t think I’ll ever be a Mo Farah but hey I’ll keep trying. On the up side though I did recently climb a rope which I’ve never in my life been able to do. I was really worried about finishing playing rugby and worried about how I’d keep fit, worried about missing the banter of team sports and missing my team mates but I’ve got to say CrossFit has amazed me. It truly is a team sport. There are no big egos just people trying to improve and everybody is full of encouragement. I feel part of a team and have met loads of new mates already. I’m now two and a half months into CrossFit, have competed in my first CrossFit throwdown and am getting ready for my next one against CrossFit Blackpool and looking forward to the drinks that will follow. CrossFit is a great sport for all, from the fittest sports person down to person that’s never lifted a weight in their life……. and if you don’t believe me ask the wife! Never would I have thought I would have found something so addictive at 35 years of age. Thanks coaches for what you are doing for me and thanks to all my new mates that keep me encouraged. Oh and by the way I’ve lost nearly three stones now, in less than 3 months!!!!
