Meet tiny little Dory, our latest medical recipient. We were able - TopicsExpress

Meet tiny little Dory, our latest medical recipient. We were able to donate $800 towards her MRI on Friday. Here is Dorys story: Dory joined ATNIL on 3/11/14 from a local shelter who had contacted us about her. When we met Dory, we knew something wasnt quite right. If allowed, she spins obsessively biting at her tail to the point of hurting herself. She also fixates on objects she sees and is difficult to refocus once shes picked something to obsess on. She was seen by our regular vet on 3/13/14 who recommended we have her seen by a neurologist. They werent sure what was going on but agreed that she was not a normal 12 week old puppy. Dory went to the neurologist at HOPE Veterinary Specialists the following day who said on exam she appeared to have normal reactions to physical testing and manipulations. She encouraged us to have an MRI done of Dorys brain to rule out brain damage at a partnering office called Vet Imaging. Her MRI came back normal, showing no injuries or deformities of her brain. Our next step will be X-rays with our regular vet of her spine and tail to rule out any injuries there that could be causing the obsessive spinning. If that comes back normal as well, we will know that Dorys issues are strictly behavioral and be able to start training without worrying about any injuries. Total cost between the neurologist and the MRI was $1893.00. We are proud to have ATNIL as one of our partner rescues, always making sure that every one of the animals in their care received all necessary medical care. We will keep you posted of Dorys diagnosis once her x-rays are completed.
