Meet us Mondays featuring Jenina Soto our Volunteer Chair: “Mi casa es tu casa” were words my aunt, my Titi Elsie, would say to anyone who walked through her doors. Serving as a visiting nurse for the Visiting Nurses Association of New York for over 40 years, Titi Elsie was my inspiration and one of my biggest supporters, completely selfless and caring for anyone and everyone. Two years ago, my aunt was diagnosed with stage iv pancreatic cancer but she refused to let it get in her way. I decided to join her in the fight and found the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. I attended my first meeting in January 2013, which also happened to be the kick-off for PurpleStride. I felt like I had walked into a room of my extended family, and immediately jumped on board to be the NYC Volunteer Chair. My aunt has sadly passed since joining, but I remember the smile on her face when I told her what I was doing. I am hopeful and proud of the work Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has done, and am grateful for the network and support that it provides.
