Meet your City Year Orlando Alumni Board (CYOAB) - Introducing Garrett Anderson Garrett graduated from Stetson University in 2011, majoring in Humanities and minors in Business and French. Garrett also studied classical violin and maintained active involvement in the Stetson University Symphony Orchestra. After graduating, he was accepted to serve in the City Year Miami 2012-2013 corps year. While serving, Garrett participated as a project coordinator on several volunteer initiatives including MLK Day and several beautification projects at North Miami Senior High School and other partner schools. Garrett worked with groups of AmeriCorps members and affiliated corporate volunteers to increase the morale of the academic community. Garrett also served as part of the planning committee for the City Year Miami Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt. After graduating from City Year, he began life-guarding for the City of Orlando and concurrently became certified as a 200-hour yoga instructor. Garrett volunteered for New Hope for Kids as a Sponsorship Coordinator, helping reach out to possible donors for their largest fundraising event, The Mascot Games. Garrett most recently enrolled in a web programming academy known as The Iron Yard which will propel him into a career that he hopes will allow him continue to pursue other passions in life including community involvement. Garrett hopes to cultivate a career in which he may be able to gain freedom and autonomy to travel the country and the world. He aims to help change the world and offer support to others who wish a similar pursuit.
