Meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Germany On October 23 Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier who paid an official visit to Yerevan. Welcoming the guest Minister Nalbandian said: “I am glad to welcome in Yerevan my old friend with whom we regularly have meetings. Our last meeting was in June during my visit to Berlin. We started the series of our meetings in June, 2008. During last two decades Armenian-German relations have experienced continuous development. And we can note with satisfaction that they have gotten a new dynamic during the recent years, which has found its expression in high level political dialogue and reciprocal visits.” Expressing gratitude for the warm reception Minister Steinmeier stated that his country attaches a great importance to expanding comprehensive cooperation with Armenia, and he has come to Yerevan with that message. The Ministers had a detailed discussion on the perspectives of partnership of mutual interest in different areas. They had also an exchange of views on several issues of regional and international agenda. The Foreign Ministers of Armenian and Germany stated with satisfaction that the regular political dialogue established between the two countries, the legal framework, inter-parliamentary cooperation, trade-economic relations, cultural, scientific and educational ties, military relations, decentralized interaction have consistently developed and enhanced. During the discussion of bilateral trade and economic relations the Ministers shared the view that Armenian-German business forums, which are regularly organized between the business communities of our countries bring a great contribution in this area. In this respect they stressed the importance of Armenian-German business meeting on October 13, which was held in the framework of the regional economic mission of German businessmen. During the meeting the sides touched upon Armenia-EU relations and the works towards establishing a new legal basis for it. Edward Nalbandian presented Frank-Walter Steinmeier the efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs towards the peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The Ministers had an exchange of views on a number of regional and international pressing issues - the Ukrainian crisis, situation in Syria, Iraq, and generally the Middle East, touched upon the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. The meeting of the Ministers was followed by a joint press conference.
