【Meeting with Prof. Peter Mathieson|會見馬斐森校長及校方高層】 Earlier tonight, representatives of HKUSU and ASA had a meeting with Prof. Peter Mathieson (President and Vice-Chancellor), Prof. Roland Chin (Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Mr. Henry Wai (Registrar) and Dr. Albert Chau (Dean of Student Affairs). 較早時段,本會幹事及香港大學教師及教職員會代表會見馬斐森校長、周大康副校長、教務長韋永庚先生及學生事務長周偉立博士,以下為對話摘錄。馬斐森校長稍後將發出聲明。 During the meeting, representatives of HKUSU expressed 3 concerns to Mathieson. 1. His stance regarding the police’s violent suppression against student protestors during the clearing action on 28 September night; 2. The University policy towards students being absent because of boycotting classes; and 3. Whether the University would suspend class on 30 September 2014. Regarding these 3 points, he said that he would issue a statement later tonight. 1. He briefly talked about his stance that he “regretted the escalation of the events”, “the police and government are accountable for their decision to use tear gas” and “condemn violence by any party and find it difficult to understand to use tear gas if it was a truly peaceful demonstration”. 2. The stance of the University towards students being absent because of boycotting classes remains the same, i.e. the University would not enforce attendance. He also raised that some staff members suggested not taking attendance during class boycott as an alternative. 3. The University would not suspend class under any circumstances on 30 September 2014. Meanwhile, representatives from ASA were also promised that the University would not look into the pattern of absence of any teaching staff during the strike. If any teaching staff would like to boycott teaching, he/she should be responsible for arranging make-up classes with students.
