Meetings and events are being held and more are being scheduled to figure out how to help African American youth. The ideas are great and I am anxious for them to become reality. Until then each African American parent regardless of education level, financial status, or being married/single should look their child in the eyes and say what would u like to be when u grow up? Once thats done start guiding them in that direction, if u dont know how to do it make calls to find out. Everybody needs a goal or some type of hope for the future. Allowing our children to just float through life never discussing college, military, employment, or careers is pitiful and its all on us. Outside forces such as racism can hinder success I have experienced it and I am in no way trying to act like it isnt still very real. But we have to own up to how we are hindering our own children. Sometimes a kid with a good life goes bad but for the most part the low grades, trouble in school, and crimes in the streets are the forecast for an eventual illegitimate babies, being an unproductive citizen, and prison sentences. As we watch our boys behave like thugs and our girls flaunt themselves like whores surely we realize their future isnt bright? In the hood negativity is popular so are we okay as long as our child is popular? I know a lot of people who were hood heroes because of the crimes they committed or who they made a baby with. Now these same people are struggling because the reality that nobody will always be in their twenties hit and their lack of preparation is glaring, they are now hood bums. Lets accept help when it comes but dont sit around waiting for it because we can all be proactive and save our own children!!!!!
