Mega Companies - Kraft, Pepsi, General Mills, Deans Foods, etc. OWN Organic Foods - Not 100% Organic Know who owns your favorite organic foods that are NOT really Organic, such as Horizon Dairy products, have not been 100% organic for more than five years, although the label states otherwise. Over the past decade many small organic food brands have been snapped up by giant corporations. Clearly, this can be bad for standards and quality. Who owns your favorite organic food label? Think most organic products and companies are independent- think again. Colgate-Palmolive bought & owns Tom’s of Maine in 2006. L’Oréal bought & owns Body Shop in 2006 Coca Cola bought & owns Odwalla in 2001 General Mills owns Green and Blacks Chocolate General Mills owns Cascadian Farms Hershey’s owns Dagoba Heinz owns Arrowhead Mills and Hain-Celestial foods and beverages. Deans Foods owns Horizon Dairy. Deans Foods is a huge conglomerate that is in control up to 90% of the milk market in many states. Horizon has long been accused of selling “fake organic” milk by the Cornucopia Institute. CHOOSE ORGANIC VALLEY products rather than Horizon. Deans foods bought & owns (2002) White Wave Silk products. Deans Foods introduced new flavors made with non-organic soybeans, and this year they did something unforgivable, they sneakily changed all the Silk soymilk products to natural from organic. They didn’t change the packaging, UPC codes or prices and they didn’t inform consumers or their grocery customers. Groupe Danone Dairy bought & owns Stoneyfield they dumb-down organics by engaging in questionable sourcing, which is not organic. Kellogg’s bought & owns Kashi in 2000 Unilever bought & owns Ben & Jerry’s in 2000 ConAgra bought & owns Lightlife Foods in 2000 Clorox bought & owns Burt’s Bees in 2007 Mars bought & owns Seeds of Change in 1997. The list goes on and on. In fact, if you see it at a chain grocery store, your favorite organic or natural foods product is probably owned by a big corporation. It’s no secret that there’s been consolidation in the organic and natural foods industry over the past decade or so. And clearly, consolidation can be bad for standards and quality. Wise Consumer knows what they buy and consume is healthy and free from GMOs, pesticides and all other harmful chemicals. BTW, Did you know that Deans Foods is owned by Monsanto, Dupont as are other harmful companies taking over our food industry. Personal health program for wellness and weight.
