Mega Mans inclusion in Super Smash Bros. is literally a dream come true for me. As far as Im concerned, Mega Man is as much a staple of Nintendo in its early days as Mario and Link, even while being a third-party character. The games are all great; even a sub-par Mega Man game is still a good game, and the best of the games are timeless classics. Jared learned even from early age that this series withstands the test of time and is worth playing whether you grew up when they were being released or not! It is a long standing debate between myself and some friends about which is the best. My friend, Eric, insists that the first one is the best. It established the formula (picking the level order; powering up with new abilities when beating bosses; using those new abilities to take down other bosses; etc) and certainly set the stage for one of the best series of its day. I would contend that the second game is the best, a pure labor of love from the creators that improves on the original in every way and is one of the most fondly remembered games of the NES. Tim Shrimpton is a fan of the third installment, with its new mechanics added to the tried-and-true formula, and level design that definitely started to get experimental and complex. Ive also heard people argue for 9, the sequel that came over a decade after its previous title, and Im sure that every one of the games is someones favorite for various reasons. So, which is the best Mega Man game? Well, which do you want it to be? (2. The answer is clearly Mega Man 2.)
