Megan, Rex and I are working on a severe weather special for early next year. Today, we met with the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson. We spent about an hour chatting with a handful of the meteorologists that make the daily forecasts, seasonal forecasts and issue severe weather warnings. Here is a sneak peek of our chat with Stephen Wilkinson, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist. We asked him about how they choose to issue a tornado warning on a storm. They say that they are more likely to issue a warning because a false alarm doesnt kill people, but not warning on a storm could. A great group of people dedicated to keeping you safe.
