#MegheDhakaTara is certainly not an easy watch, but it is difficult and beautiful. The almost-completelyblack and white print, gives it a lyricism and pathos, which perhaps color may have taken away. A semi-biopic on the maverick genius Ritwik Ghatak, MegheDhakaTara gives the viewer a glimpse into the life, times, thoughts and emotions of the man, who by many was considered to be a nihilist and by others a hopeless dreamer. Actor #SaswataChatterjee who breathes life into the character as Nilkantha Bagchi, is awe-inspiring and stellar; an author backed role of a lifetime perhaps. It makes one sit up and notice, that Whoa! Where was this treasure of talent? Pan-India viewers who have till now known Saswata Chatterjee as Kahaani’s ‘Bob Biswas’ need to watch MegheDhakaTara just to realize that they have seen so little of the actor’s craft. As the movie goes back-and-forth (switches between different phases of Ghatak’s life) it makes the narrative not so smooth; so take care to pay attention! It is famed that #RitwikGhatak himself was not an easy man to know, and post the movie one gets a wee bit of understanding as to why that was so. If one is looking for candyfloss-popcorn-munching fun viewing, then MegheDhakaTara is not the movie to watch. It leaves you thinking, and well, not all of us feel like doing that during or after a movie. MegheDhakaTara is a poignant watch; no you may not shed tears, but it will touch you deeply nevertheless. A classic, a masterpiece? Watch it and decide! youtube/watch?v=WIyxv7TcbvY
