Mel Gibsons character, both in Braveheart and in The Patriot, got - TopicsExpress

Mel Gibsons character, both in Braveheart and in The Patriot, got the basic relationship between government and freedom accurate. Government is all that stands between total freedom (freedom to do anything, including rape and murder) and anarchy. Government is necessary, to create infrastructure, monetary and judicial systems, and provide for common defense. When carried too far, government becomes tyranny, an oppressive weight the population must carry to support the privileged rulers living a lifestyle far above the citizens. It is my thought that every government in the world has become a tyranny, every one of them. The US Government included.
