Melaka eyes marina development; invites private sector cooperation Jun 12, 2013 - By Farah Wahida: The state government of Melaka will tap the broad network of private sectors and engage them in developing an international-class marina that will cater to yachting enthusiasts. Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Idris Haron, said “more than 3,000 yachts pass through the Straits of Melaka each year. If they (the private sector) have a marina which can provide good services like repairing and cleaning, it will turn Melaka into a renowned harbour for yachts” “If many yachting enthusiasts visit Melaka and we can meet their requirements and needs, the glory of Melaka as a maritime centre will be revived and it will become well-known like Capetown and the Gold Coast.” Idris added that the marina development would help enhance the tourism and economy of Melaka. Along this line, he also urged boat builders to further expand the “Made in Melaka” into global markets.
