Melbourne trip - Day 1 Beautiful Landscaping. Great Weather. Friendly natives. Walking around the city gives a splendid view of the different style of architecture. Some modern, some victorian, but each has their own style, and never boring. The landscape was beautiful, trees were specifically lined up along the roads. Dockland offered the pier view, everything seems more leisurely, spacious apartments, great for own stay. Yara river banks are busier, with casino and mixes of upscale residential and offices on the south bank. Their walkways along the river are wide, and plenty of green patches for tired travellers to take a breather while admiring the calm flow of the river, and the ever flowing crowd passing by. The opposite side is the Central Business District (CBD), the heart and soul of Melbourne. All these areas are within easy strolling distance. The highlight of the day was the fantastic view from Eureka Towers 88th storey. Standing at the highest observational deck in the whole of southern hemisphere, looking at the endless night skyline, made me feel insignificant. My mobile phone camera did no justice to the 360 degree skyline. I cannot imagine how the future owners of the brand new Australia 108 will feel looking at the sun slowly sets down into the sea horizon everyday, as they stand higher than the 88th storey observation deck that i was standing at that moment. This 108 storey iconic project will be launched soon by World Class Land, our very own prestigious Singapore developer, and will be marketed by ERA. The weather was in between 10 degrees to 18 degrees celcius. Perfect for exploring the city! The sun is bright, but u will not get the burning sensation when the sun rays hit you. If any regret, it was that i did not bring my shades. Wearing long sleeves, with jeans, and a jacket in hand, we walked for about 4 hours straight, from hotel to Dockland, to southern cross station, to the south banks, yara river, then to Crown casino, Eureka tower, and Australia 108 site. All these without breaking a single sweat. The hours passed easily with lots of laughters from the travel companions. There were always smiles coming from strangers as I had eye contact with them. One event that caught me off guard was how helpful and friendly one Australian was particularly. He was in a cab, and we were still figuring which direction to proceed, probably looking a little flustered. So this kind gentleman wound down his window and asked if there is something wrong. Before i could react to his question, the taxi driver drove away. I have never encountered such friendliness in Singapore, offering assistance without even the need to ask for it. No wonder Melbourne had been named top city to live in again.
