Melbournes most expensive apartment The eighth-storey unit at 150 Clarendon Street, East Melbourne, was listed this week with an asking price of $23.5 million. A gargantuan seven bedroom apartment in the luxury building millionaires dub 150 East is set to smash the record price for a Melbourne flat – an accolade coincidentally held by another dwelling in the complex. The eighth-storey unit at 150 Clarendon Street, East Melbourne, was listed this week with an asking price of $23.5 million. For the outlay – nearly 50 times the Melbourne apartment median – buyers get a gun-barrel city view over parkland that can never be built out. A billiards room, library, cinema, marble bar and several lounge, dining and alfresco spaces are also included in the unit, which has six basement car parks. Measuring nearly 1000 square metres, the flat is now the states most valuable residential offering, surpassing the Smorgon familys Toorak estate, also speculated to be worth over $20 million. Dingle Partners selling agent Anton Wongtrakun describes his apartment listing as a world-class offering. He said the location, opposite Fitzroy Gardens, was the local equivalent of the blue-ribbon real estate on New Yorks Central Park. His online advertisement only prices the flat in US currency ($US20 million). Developed in 2009 on the site of the former Mercy Hospital for Women, 150 Clarendon Street was the first residential project for local factory builder Salta. That companys founder, Sam Tarascio Senior, also lives in the 12-level complex, renowned for its grand entrance lobby and hotel-like services for its rich-list occupants. Melbournes most expensive recorded apartment sale, at $19.3 million, was for another flat at 150 East. For most of this year, two supersized apartments have been for sale with price expectations of about $20 million. Coincidentally owned by the same vendor, developer Elias Jreissati, they include a two-storey waterfront penthouse at the HMAS Lonsdale building in Port Melbourne and a full-floor flat on the 82nd level of Southbanks Eureka tower. One of Melbournes largest apartment exchanges occurred last November when billionaire businessman Solomon Lew paid $13.3 million for a full-floor flat at the Royal Domain building at 360 St Kilda Road.
