Meldrum & Standing: Known community personality Henry May has - TopicsExpress

Meldrum & Standing: Known community personality Henry May has written an open letter to Jeff Meldrum, regarding his association with Todd Standing, most recently at the Summit event. To be honest Im surprised there hasn’t been more of this kind of thing, since the association of the two has caused some consternation in the communitys ranks. To briefly cover Standing, I think most of what is to be said is out there already, humorously referred to as the Muppet show. I for one find it bit coincidental that he has the videos that he does and just happens to be associated with a production company. That fact was enough for me, there is just isnt that much coincidence out there, and all the wishful thinking some may have wont change that. Meldrum is the conundrum for some, because to many in the community he is the one well known scientist involved besides Bindernagle. Many make the mistake of veneration here, and it is a mistake. Yes, Meldrum is a scientist, but hes also human, and humans have yet to be perfect. Im not going to resort to an attack on Jeff Meldrums decision to associate with Standing, others have made this mistake before, and may well again. Les Stroud has made the choice to associate with Standing to, and as a celebrity he will likely survive, if only as Survivorman. Likewise Meldrum is a big boy and knows his motivations, the problem I think is with the idol worship that some have with Meldrum. Being a scientist doesn’t make him infallible, and being human doesnt throw him under the bus. He will likely take some damage from this decision, and whether he survives it is up to him, but those who insist on idol worship set themselves up for disappointment. Meldrum is human with human motivations, and the sooner folks realize that, the less painful things need be. At least he isn’t a stump worship, and likely knows better than to habituate raccoons.
