Meltdown Music Fest. In Olean Third Annual 3-Day Event Will Gather Over 20 Musicians, June 28-30 By Justin Graham The Meltdown Music Festival—now in its third year—is burning a path of anticipation towards the town of Olean, New York. The hottest three-day event of the summer runs Friday June 28 through Sunday June 30, 2013. All gates will open at 4pm, on the first day of the festival. The event will take place rain or shine, and there will be no refunds granted under the circumstance of unfortunate weather. “The hosts of the Meltdown Music Festival are a husband and wife, Kevin Thropp and Jen Borst. They both hold full time jobs outside the realm of their music festival. They decided to pursue this project based on their love of music and wanting to put their land to good use. The best part of working on this project is the people they have met in process, from musicians to volunteers. That is what has made this experience so worthwhile and what will keep it going into future years. Watching attendees enjoy the bands, the great sound quality and the natural surroundings is the best part of the event weekend itself,” according to Meltdown Music Fest, Olean NY (on the web). The following is a listing (subject to change) of performers that are confirmed to play: Big Leg Emma, Vincent James Explosion, Dredneks, The Meishlunday, American Ride Band, Channel Six Band, The Brummy Brothers, Smackdab, Krypton 88, Maria Aurigema, Steven R. Trent, Kickstart Rumble, Led by the Blind, The Heavenly Chillbillies, The Gilroy Brothers, Lower Town Trio, Fulton Funk, Black Cat Blues Band, Carina and the Six String Preacher, Apple Jack, Alex Kates, The Lucky Jukebox Brigade, and Emma Lane. The origin of the bands range anywhere from Canton, Ohio to the Greater Buffalo area. Some of the featured performers you will see at the festival are Alex Kates, Maria Aurigema, and Steven R. Trent. “Alex is a guitarist-singer-songwriter from Jamestown, New York. After 25 years of guitar playing, performing, and songwriting, his style has developed into an infused creation of its own. Alex has performed on street corners of San Francisco, bars and clubs in the Northeast, and numerous stages in between. He’s travelled through 48 states, and the road has never stopped calling his name. Maria grew up in North Tonawanda, New York with her home being the stop-over to many traveling entertainers who played Melody Fair in the late 60′s to early 70′s and who visited her father, Jay Aurigema. She went on to graduate from The State University of New York at Fredonia with a degree in instrumental music, received her master’s degree in creative studies from Buffalo State College and currently works as an instrumental music instructor in Kenmore, NY. Maria released her debut C.D. entitled Take Me which contains mostly original music. Steven Trent is a rockabilly roots music musician from North Canton Ohio. One day, Steve decided to form a One Man Band when he ran across a 4 dollar suitcase in a Canton Ohio thrift store. After crafting a snare drum out of a homemade box and some vintage license plates, and finding a couple of cheap bass drum pedals, the Flat Broke One Man Band was in business. Since opening up shop in January 2011, Steven R Trent’s Flat Broke One Man Band has been tearing up the stages of Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, with the fiery brand of rockabilly mayhem he’s best known for; but now fusing in more roots music, proving that he’s always had the soul of a bluesman and the heart of a country western troubadour,” according to Meltdown Music Fest on the web. Hosts of the festival are currently looking for venders and volunteers. If you volunteer at the festival, you will receive a free weekend pass. Tickets are available at The Great Olean Area Chamber of Commerce on 120 North Union St. Olean. The prices are as follows: A weekend pass (including admission for the weekend along with tent camping and parking) is 50.00. Individual daily passes are $20 for June 28, $25 for June 29, and $10 for June 30. For RV’s 22 feet and under the cost is $35, and RV’s 23 feet and under are priced at $50 dollars.
