Member Ntobeng on sate of roads in GAUTENG • Honourable Member I believe you can agree that Roads & transport is the most important aspect of the economy after education and health care. • Two years ago, 31 percent of the provinces roads were in poor and very poor conditions. • Over half of the provincial roads in Gauteng carry more than 5000 vehicles per day and 38 percent of the roads carry more than 10,000 cars per day that ferry people to and from work on a daily basis which largely contributes to the economy. • The department had decided to focus on repairing potholes , maintaining and rehabilitating roads in the province to ensure that there is a steady flow of tenders to their cadres so that the ANC government can continue to loot at the expense of the people of this province. • For an example, Diepsloot West township is not far from the wealthy suburbs of Dainfern and Chartwell just next door from the rich and yet roads leading to houses are not tarred with no street lights and storm water drainage is extremely poor why?is is because their blacks?IT IS A VERY BAD STORY TO TELL THERE • For a successful state that seeks to drive real economic and industrial development and provide better services, an inspired, skilled, and well-compensated public service is required. The public service should be strengthened for a sustainable transformation of the economy. The ethos of such a state should be developmental and very strong and, hence, consistent with anti-corruption measures. This is emphasised because the task of fundamental economic transformation requires a strong state with the ability to develop a clear strategic vision, and be able to implement and monitor the progress being made. • A huge chunk of the budget was allocated to the Gautrain – and yet the very same Gautrain does not serve the interest of the poorest of the poor in the province it is expensive ,it is solely designed for the comfort of the rich in areas like Sandton and leaving poor people in the townships to continue swimming in potholes of a good story. • And on the other hand taxi operators are barred from using express lanes on the Soweto freeway and the JHB CBD and yet these taxis provide a crucial economic and social service, and the sprawling city’s 6.6 million residents use them to get to work, school, places of entertainment and much more . • On the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project, MEC Vadi said the process of re-looking the toll tariffs was well underway, with a steering committee recommending that the tariffs be slashed by 20 percent, well MEC Etolls must be scrapped and be done away with. That is the will of the people • Madam Speaker most of our roads in Gauteng are used by scholar transport operators who ferry our young lions and lionesses who are going to continue with Economic Freedom in this country ,the department has to ensure that roads are rehabilitated and safe. • In conlusion,Moloto road the 120km road that connects Mpumalanga and Pretoria, and carries 60 000 commuters daily and 700 buses , It is the largest single death toll in the past 12 month and most are blacks if not all, what are you doing about it? You are the funeral undertaker of our road users in the province. I thank you!!!
