Member question I was advised by my GP on Saturday 1st June 2013 that I had a Melanoma, she referred me to a specialist obviously (with no explanation of how serious this was). On Monday 3rd June 2013, I called the specialists rooms and after finding out how much my out of pocket expenses would be I decided not to follow through with that specialist, as I am single mother and could not justify spending such money on something so trivial. The next day Tuesday 4th June at 7.30am I was leaving from work and I received a call from the specialist I had contacted the day before, his receptionist had looked a my test results and was so concerned, she explained my situation to the Dr, so he called me. I was totally shocked, it was at this point I began to realize that his was not just a splinter I was dealing with it could actually be serious. The Dr was extremely direct with me and made an appointment for me to see him the next day, Wednesday 5th June 2013. Omg, I could not believe what he was saying to me. Because of the RARITY of melanoma and AGRESSIVENESS of it, this guy was sitting there telling me that we only had a short time frame for removal or it will become inoperable in no more than 4-5 weeks. Just to explain my melanoma, it grew in 6-8 weeks it looked like a pimple/boil, it did not look like any melanoma you see in a brochure, it was a raised red / pink lump.
