Member question: have an 18 mo old daughter. Still bfeeds day and night. Had to get father to leave w police when she was just 12 days old. We are in a nasty custody battle. I get no financial nor emotional support. I chose to bfeed due to the health benefits and no cost. I had no idea being a first time mom, let alone single mother how attached shed become. After many attempts of bottles and weaning the current issue is that she may be forced into spending overnights with her father. He recently (4 mo) has gone from 2 hr. visits to everyday 3 hrs on weekdays and 4 hrs on weekends. However as soon as she comes home its mommy mommy! She uses me to fall asleep for nap time and almost every other hour at night. My request to the judge is to let her self wean. He says he needs literature on the subject....hes never been a mom...never had an attached child. If anyone knows of any good articles regarding attachment, how dramatically weaning her affects her emotionally, and the trauma one should not have to endure please post links or pm me! In no way have I wanted to use breastfeeding as a way to take away time from her dad. The first year he wasnt around to help, during my pregnancy. He was emotionally abusive...I gave my daughter what she wanted and I dont ever want her to think Im abandoning her. I cry when I think about this and I know my situation is different from most. I pray for this judge and my precious baby...This is all going to be happening February 10th so any legal info would be very helpful. I have an attorney, but even he doesnt quite understand all of how much she cries and wont let anyone, but me hold her throughout the night.
