Member, representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Charles C. Odedo, today continues his catalogue of reasons Anambra must have a change in governance and why his party, APC, will defeat APGA on November 16. Excerpts: You were highlighting the things the incumbent government is doing that according to you have necessitated change; do you still have more? Yes, the issue of non-conduct of local government election is one that even members of APGA have joined hands with others to condemn their own government, because there is a point at which a man would say no to injustice even if it means losing his life. In the beginning, the APGA members thought it was politics but when after deceiving them twice and making them spend all their money, with some of them selling off their houses and even lands to pay Obi and his party APGA for the ticket of the party and he refused to conduct the election, they joined others to say that local government election must be conducted. Remember also that the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh said it severally in the national dallies and at public functions he asked Obi to conduct the local government election so that the party will have honour as one that can deliver on its promises. Umeh said that was why Obi and those mismanaging the local government fund with him wanted him dead. Peter Obi’s Government has refused to conduct local government election in almost eight years it has been in office. It is a government of deceit. They have fixed date for local Government election more than five times. Each time, they have failed to perform. There is now a new date of December, 2013. Is deceit what they want to continue? Lets us watch and see. Peter Obi runs his Government by donating money to institutions and even to private companies and buying them vehicles. We need a change so that Anambra state funds can be saved to give our people the much needed free education and bursary awards and also a reduction in the school fees, especially in higher institutions. Accountability demands that Government should be the one executing Government projects but now Peter Obi is just donating money and relying on beneficiaries to think, plan and execute or run the government for him. Mind you, this is against the law of public procurement and fiscal responsibility. Two things stand clear in what Peter Obi and the APGA government is doing with the funds and destiny of Ndi Anambra. One, it is clear that the APGA government led by Obi has no agenda or has run short of ideas, hence the resort to sharing the state funds to groups and institutions to initiate projects and execute for government, whatever that project may be. Two, lack of vision and knowledge of good governance. But again in its “smartness”, the APGA/Obi government failed to realize that the over 90 per cent of us, Anambrarians, are out here waiting and today they are talking of continuity of no account of local government funds for eight years. We say no to that. In fact, the tempo of the donations/money sharing has increased tremendously now that the election is around the corner. Another great tragedy of Peter Obi’s government is the religious tension that he has created in the state. He is practically persecuting Anglicans and this must change. Our people need to be dealt with not according to their religious belief but with fairness, and merit. The once religious harmony of the state is threatened by Peter Obi’s administration which introduced religious politics in the state. Why are you so confident that your party will win the November16, governorship election? The coming election will be a landslide victory for our candidate, Senator (Dr.) Chris Nwabueze Ngige (Onwa) OON. I have gone round the state, everywhere you go, and it is the same story, “We need this man back, to come and salvage the state.” Ngige’s performance when he was Governor before is our greatest asset. This is a man who stood firm and made great sacrifices for the people of the state. He endangered his life and that of his family to salvage Anambra state and liberated it from the clutches of those who held it at ransom. Our candidate, Ngige, is a man that has zero tolerance for low or no quality and corruption. He is an experienced administrator and an astute politician, who gave Anambra state hope and saved them from nightmares, hence he has earned their love and support which no one, no matter the level of campaign of calumny will take away from him. You earn the people’s respect, love and sincere support; you neither buy nor force it, not even with donations. Don’t you think the Anambra North people’s agitation and the governor’s support will reduce your party’s chances? No, not at all, Anambra people want the best. Peter Obi’s Government has not performed and therefore cannot influence who succeeds it. There is insecurity in the land, there is massive youth unemployment, and the education system is not working. This is the only state where workers do not receive minimum wage. An endorsement from a bad government will amount to nothing. It will be a landslide victory for Senator Ngige of APC. His experience and performance as former governor is our greatest strength. Our people want him. He is the best. 0 Email Share
