Members of the Hazara Community, supported by refugee advocates - TopicsExpress

Members of the Hazara Community, supported by refugee advocates and concerned Australians, rallied outside the Immigration Offices in Melbourne today to protest the imminent deportation of Gulistan Ehsani, back to Afghanistan. The deportation, to the risk of torture and death, is scheduled for Wednesday. Gulistan is being held in the Marbyrnong detention centre. In the last three days 19 people including two US soldiers have been killed in Taliban attacks. Afghanistan is not safe; Gulistan will not be safe. Please pass on this information and stand up for Glistens right to live. Lobby the Minister for Immigrations office, lobby your local members, as a matter of urgency, or attend the vigils to be held at the Maribyrnong detention centre on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Gulistan is a 33 year old Hazara man who has been in Australia for 3 years. There are serious inconsistencies with the decisions being made by the Refugee Review Tribunal. Some assessments find that the dangers faced by asylum seekers from Jaghori are sufficient to grant protection, while others are rejected. Since the decision was made, the situation for the Hazara people in Afghanistan has deteriorated. This would be the 3rd forced deportation to Afghanistan. Zainullah who was deported in August was captured and tortured a month later by the Taliban for two days before he broke free. Abdullah who was deported from Perth in October, remains stuck in Kabul with no support and too terrified to travel to Jaghori where he is originally from. Gulistan came to us for protection. To deport him would be a gross abuse of human rights and a terrible abrogation of our responsibilities.
