Members of the public in Nakuru thwarted an attempt by flying squad officers to arrest a surgeon under unclear circumstances. Doctor Isaac Ngetich cheated death after three armed plainclothe police officers confronted him at a petrol station threatening to shoot him, claiming he was a criminal. Petrol station attendants and passersby noticed the officers pointing guns at the doctor and dragging him towards the boot of a vehicle parked nearby. They then raised alarm. “I was almost shot for a crime I was not aware of,” said the shaken doctor whose shirt was torn and his belt removed in the commotion. Narrating ordeal Narrating the ordeal, Ng’etich said a vehicle with three occupants blocked his car before he was pulled out by individuals with guns pointing at him. “They were in civilian clothes and the first thing that came to my mind was that I had been carjacked for they did not identify themselves. But members of public stood their ground and blocked the way despite the officers cocking their guns,” said the doctor. Nakuru Central OCS Bamfort Tsurwa roughed up journalists as he tried to bar them from covering the incident. Mr Tsurwa later told the doctor they had received information from informers and promised to issue an apology through the police spokesman.
