Membership Monday! From now until the end of our fall recruitment cycle we will be uploading membership interviews which will help you get to know individuals the Delta Tau Delta Gamma Rho Chapter here at the University of Oregon. Name: Jake Sullivan Year: Junior Major: Cinema Studies Q1: What made you choose Delts? I came into college freshman year thinking that I wasnt interested in Greek life. I had loads of preconceptions about what it was and how it was more of a social club than a values-based organization that would help me get the most out of my college experience. My sister was dating (still is) a Delt who graduated two years ago, Mat Topolewski. He asked me to come check out the house and meet some of the guys and immediately I was impressed by the group of men I had found, and how committed to living up to a higher standard they were. I knew from the start that this was a house where I would grow as a person as well as gain valuable, lifelong friendships. Q2: How has Delts affected your college experience as a whole? Delta Tau delta has opened so many doors for me, and given me many opportunities that I wouldnt have otherwise known were possible. In fact, I found my major (Cinema Studies) because one of my brothers was in it, and suggested I look into it because he thought it might be something I would be interested in as well. The diversity of this house provides a unique chance to learn about a bunch of different majors through the experiences of older members whove already taken classes in them. They can provide insights into what classes are best to take, as well as help you out in tougher subject areas you may be struggling in. Q3: What are some of your hobbies? I come from Bend, Oregon, which is a very active outdoor area, and so many of my hobbies involve the outdoors. Im an avid backpacker, rock climber and recently got into scuba diving. Ive even managed to get a couple of brothers to join me on a couple of trips, which are always a blast. I love to camp and explore the outdoors and all they have to offer. Additionally, I love film and nearly always have my camera on me to snap a few pictures or a bit of video on these trips. Q4: As the editor for the recruitment video being released later today, can you tell us about what went into making the video? Putting together the recruitment video was somewhat of a larger project that I had originally anticipated. As it started to come together, I showed it to many of the brothers around the house and got all kinds feedback about how it could be better. But I thrive on criticism because it gives me a better sense of direction and pushes me to create better material. I dont really mind spending hours working on videos, because its what I would love to do as a career someday, and I just figure its great experience. Plus, its very gratifying to work for hours on something, click a button, then come back in a few hours once it renders and have a piece of work that you can be proud of. Q5: What are your plans for the future? My goal after collage is to get an internship or job working for a production company, specifically in post-production video editing work. Eventually I would love to work on large productions, but my dream job is to work as a Cinematographer for a National Geographic expedition. If you have any questions about Delts, Cinema Studies, or even where good places around Rock Climb around Eugene are, feel free to message me on Facebook and Id love to talk!
