Memorial Day has become a festive occasion and has come to mean the start of summer for many. But we must never forget its true purpose and meaning. This is a day for Americans to honor those who have given their life in service to our country. On this Memorial Day, let us remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Let also recognize their families and friends and pray that God has eased the pain of their loss. At this time, it is also appropriate to share our appreciation for the sacrifices of those who currently serve in uniform. Every day, those on active duty put their lives at risk on our behalf, defending our country and the freedoms we have come to take for granted. I join all Americans in expressing my support and gratitude for the men and women who serve in our country’s armed forces. My thanks too to our country’s veterans for their military service and for continually reminding us of what we owe to our men and women in uniform. God bless them all and God bless America.
