Memorial Day was always the big holiday in your family. Every - TopicsExpress

Memorial Day was always the big holiday in your family. Every year, wed wake up early to set up at the Wintersmith Lodge for the annual West Family Reunion. This would often end up with one of us arguing with Dad because he wanted to be there at 6am, but setup only took half an hour and the reunion didnt start till 11. Nevertheless, it was usually one of the best days of the year, with the whole family together. We kids would report to each other as we overheard Dad bragging about us to his siblings and cousins. He never praised us directly, but were pretty sure he kept the reunions going so he could tell everyone how great his kids were. The reunions ended several years ago, and I wasnt able to make it back for the last few anyway. But for so much of my life, this was Dads big day. Not his birthday or Fathers Day, or Christmas. It was this one, our celebration of family. So today I miss my dad a little more than usual.
