Memorial Parade of Boats Kicks Off Village Cup Regatta Sat., Sept. 7 September 5, 2013 A Memorial Parade of Boats will kick off 4th Annual Village Cup Regatta in Port Jefferson on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 am in Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson. All sailboats will be “dressed” with colorful nautical flags and banners in this free event prior to the Village Cup Regatta, which takes place on Long Island Sound off Port Jefferson. The Coast Guard Auxiliary Band and a bagpiper will provide music at the viewing area. The Setauket Yacht Club’s Village Cup Regatta is a friendly competition between teams representing John T. Mather Memorial Hospital and the Village of Port Jefferson. The event raises funds for Mather’s Palliative Medicine Program and The Lustgarten Foundation, which funds pancreatic cancer research. The Regatta has raised more than $100,000 for the two programs. The Village Cup will be awarded to the winning team at a reception at the Village Center following the Regatta. Actor Ralph Macchio will be at the reception as Ambassador for the Regatta to help publicize the important work of the two programs it funds.
