Memories: When I was a wee lad, my mother and I were with my father who was an American Air Force Officer assigned to the Royal Air Force Staff College in the United Kingdom. There was a small contingent of American officers there. For the 4th of July they decorated the kids bicycles in red, white and blue and dressed up in the colonial garb with five and drum and led a parade of us Yanks up to the gates of the Royal Air Force HQ building whereupon they cut the lock and then proceeded to take the British Union Jack Flag down from the flagpole and run up the US Stars and Stripes flag. Whereas, had this been done to us on American soil we would certainly have been incensed, in stark contrast the British officers applauded the show as it was all in good fun.
