Memory lane. . . Before there was X-games! Before there were leagues! There was Raymond and his dumb ass! . . Me and some friends used to go up to the Adirondacks Mtns to go extreme biking in the 80s. We would ride down this wooded animal trail that at one point would wrap.around the top of a cliff and go back into the woods. This cliff edge was probably about three ft across at its widest and ran maybe a hundred feet before plunging back into the forest. Traversed it a buncha times. It was beautiful. Theres woods all around you then it would part and you would see this miles wide vista. It wasnt scary cuz you had to keep your eye on the trail. Well I was coming up on it and and was ready to take the turn when my back brake popped and the front took too much pressure. I tried to release but too late, the back rose and flung me out and forward, into space. Lucky it shot me outwards. There was a pine tree about 20 ft below me and I hit. I went in and through some of it. As I went lower and the tree branches got bigger, they got closer to the cliff wall. Finally I hit the wall full force, then back against the tree. This happened three times till the branches opened up and I went through and finally fell to the ground from about 15 ft. I layed for a few seconds but was conscious. I got up and was amazed I was still alive. I looked down at myself and thats when my scalp hit my left ear. It was almost totally torn off except for some skin. My eyes filled with blood and I couldnt open them. I could hear a road about half a mile away and was gonna go towards it when I hear the roar of an engine. There was a volunteer fire station on that same road and they were having a few brewskis, enjoying the scenery when they see this person flying in the air with the greatest of ease! Lol! I was lucky cuz I was by myself that day. The pickup stopped in front of me, guy gets out, and his exact words, which I would never forget my whole life OMG! Youre alive!. Damn skippy! He put me in the back, took me to the station, and I was airlifted to the hospital. Never losing consciousness or going into shock even though I used three bags of blood. List of injuries: Scalp sewn back on, tree branch penetrated my right arm lengthwise, meaning it went in my palm and came out near my elbow, stabbed my calf near artery, but was somehow saved cuz my jean leg rode up to almost my groin and acted as a tourniquet, and various scrapes and stab wounds from cliff walls and broken branches. After all said and done, look like the mummy. Took me four months to be able to be myself again. And I rode that mother one more time because I could!
