Dont Be A Sucker (1947) .. | youtu.be/23X14HS4gLk // In todays terms, the men on the bench are not talking about whether or not women have the right to own their own bodies but they might as well be. They are discussing their own freedoms or potential lack thereof. They are discussing how men need to stick up for men or risk being ostracized themselves. The majority of women battle on this front and many more each and every day. Of course, men or women of any ethnicity with big money, dont face day-to-day discrimination and that is my point; they can hire attorneys and purchase space in media. The first division (by unseen hands) is between man and women of insecure means and with the implicit message that socio-engineering methods controlling women is desirable by men throughout the very same periods these same men may feel the threat themselves; when their own welfare is compromised. This intent to perceive women as less worthy has been persistent. Thus, I ask; why is it men are still blind to the plight of women? And, what do these men do when they perceive the threat against themselves? They seek to cement themselves among each other. Do they recognize the part they play in their discrimination of women? Emphatically; no. Are women subconsciously perceived as nurturers because we (are able to equate their burden with our own) have empathy for what the men are experiencing? Do we women fail to see we may be nurturers because we were first to feel the pain; persistent inequality? I think so. I thinks this speaks to the core of the intent of the movie except this movie doesnt go far enough. Men will be discriminated against until the day they stop discriminating against women. Men will not be safe until all women are safe from discrimination and treated with the respect and dignity they have always deserved.
