BASTROP, TEXAS Disaster: 2011 Wildfires Our MDS crews did our best to continue the work on the homes in the midst of the icy conditions. Framing of the new home for Mr. Mike and Ms. Dusty was basically done by Thursday afternoon, just ahead of the worst of the weather. The house was dried-in and ready for electrical rough-in to begin. At Ms. Sandra’s house the electrical crew finished up a good week. Power was on to the house and temporary lights brightened up the interior. This house is being turned over to the RV crew to finish. Don, Charlotte, Al and Glen completed hanging all the siding. Helen followed right behind them with the caulking and the paint. Doreen painted the concrete block pillars, preparing them to have the skirting applied. BRAITHWAITE, LOUISIANA Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Isaac On Monday morning materials were delivered and papers were signed to start Ms. Tana’s renovation. The job will include installing a door, new roof and replacing two areas of flooring. CRISFIELD, MARYLAND Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy We had sixteen volunteers from sunny Manitoba come to join us here and they worked hard and made good progress in spite of the wintery weather. Back in Manitoba it was even colder and stormier so it was still a good deal for them. We were blessed once again with good devotionals, and the challenge for this week was the reminder that we are not saved by good works, but once we are saved, good works will result. Progress on the homes was good again. Ms. Susie’s house was a hive of activity all week, and though inside it still looks much the same there was a lot of mud put on the walls. DULUTH, MINNESOTA Disaster: 2013 Floods It is always fun to see how God brings just the right people to us at just the right time. This week we needed folks to hang drywall, and we had a great group of people from PA who were just right for the job! They were energetic enough to work all day and still have energy for a game of basketball, ping pong or kick ball in the evenings! Volunteers hung drywall on the ceiling and walls at Mr. Ray’s house and also at Mr. Brian’s and Ms. Pat’s house. Click here to see photos from the Duluth project on Facebook. FAR ROCKAWAY, NEW YORK Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy We made great progress at Ms. Brenda and Mr. Leonards home this week. The drywall was mostly finished, flooring was installed and the doors were hung. Kitchen cabinets were ordered, and we are hopeful for an early arrival so that we can get those into place. Our work has been complicated by extreme weather when pipes froze then burst in a client’s home. HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI Disaster: 2013 Tornados We finished the windows at Ms. Wildas home and put on restored or new trim that the ladies painted before it was hung. Last Thursday we began a new build and since there is no heat in the house as of yet, we found that our toes and hands soon became stiff. After putting the cold thoughts aside the group quickly installed the electrical boxes and strung the wiring throughout the house. HIGH RIVER, ALBERTA Disaster: 2013 Flood Volunteers began work at Mr. Daniel’s house this week. There is some demolition work needed and then the framing can begin. Water flooded their basement and the main floor. This family had almost completed the adoption process for their first child…all papers were lost in the flood…they must begin the process all over again. SAYREVILLE, NEW JERSEY Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy At Sister Eileen’s house we finished the flooring, baseboard trim, radiator covers and painted the walls in her basement where all the damage had been. At Ms. Elizabeth’s house we re-tarped the roof over the bedroom and received permits to begin work on a new wall and roof. SHAWNEE, OKLAHOMA Disaster: 2013 Tornados Since the temperature was 15 degrees outside, the crew was happy when the day came to work inside of Mr. Ken’s house. They hung and taped drywall, and got some mudding done. Mr. Charles also had drywall hung, taped and mudded, and, in addition, had some bad spots in his existing drywall was repaired. STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Sandy The snow and cold weather delayed our start Monday for a couple of hours; however we had a very productive week. Some of our volunteers worked at Mr. Cartwright’s home, mudding and painting the bathroom and finishing trim in the rest of house. Kitchen cabinets were installed and a vanity was installed in the bathroom. The entrance door and tile in bathroom were also finished. This home is near completion.
