Mental Detox Day #1: Verses 3 and 4 in the first chapter of Proverbs really stick out to me as I start a new cycle of reading a chapter a day. It reads: For receiving the discipline of wisdom, righteousness, right-ruling, and straightness; 4 For giving insight to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young. This hit home for me on multiple levels as I reflect. The word discipline often carries a negative connotation. It usually is associated with sternness and/or punishment. Furthermore it is associated with control. Lacking self-discipline However, in this usage we see here in proverbs, discipline embodies the aforementioned attributes to a class of excellence in the form of a course of study, such as a major in higher learning. Proverbs then lists the areas of study that one can expect to excel at (provided, you can maintain the discipline required to complete the course of study). As many times as I have read this chapter of proverbs, only now as I am heavily focused on transformation does this stick out. Again, understanding brings wisdom. #puttingonthenewman
