Mercedes-Benz Unveils Solar-Powered Vision G-Code Concept Mercedes-Benz looks toward the future with the unveiling of the solar-powered Vision G-Code concept. The vehicle was presented at the opening of the German automobile manufacturer’s new Research and Development center in Beijing. The concept takes the form of a Sports Utility Coupe that comes in at 161 inches shorter than the GLA. Despite the small size, however, the Vision G-Code sports a handful of impressive features, including multi-voltaic silver paint that turns the entire body into one continuous solar panel. The paint fuels the electric portion of the unspecified hybrid powertrain that offers through-the-road all-wheel drive and the option of pure electric drive. A holographic grille in front indicates what mode the vehicle is in, while LED headlights appear alongside. Another strip of LEDs wrap around the back and tiny cameras pop out of the hidden a-pillars to act as rearview mirrors in classic concept fashion Additional features include 21-inch wheels (constructed of aluminum rims with carbon spokes), short overhangs, aluminum skidplates and an F-1-like steering wheel. Of course, we can’t realistically expect to the Vision G-Code to hit production any time soon, but it does give an indication of where Mercedes-Benz is headed in terms of technology and design. - By Brock Cardiner
