Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon - the hit song from the hit 1940s Bollywood musical Patanga. Its very well known in India, but I think very few Burmese of a younger generation have ever seen it, so I wanted to post this link to YouTube. The song is set partly in Rangoon and is a conversation between a wife (left behind in India) and her husband, having a good time in Burma (though pretending not to). Its a reminder of Indias image of Burma at the time, as a place of riches and opportunity.
