Merry Christmas! Happy Birthday Jesus! The best story ever told...the birth of King Jesus! He wasnt born in a palace or at Riveroaks like many but in a barn with animals to a young virgin who had to travel back home to be counted in the census and to escape the hands of evil King Herod who wanted to kill this newborn King! According to the Gospel of Matthew (2:11), the Magi or wise men (the bible never says how many men) but they presented 3 gifts to Jesus, 1. Gold 2. Frankincense 3. Myrrh These valuable items were standard gifts to honor a king in the ancient world: gold as a precious metal, frankincense as perfume or incense, and myrrh as anointing oil. The Book of Isaiah, when describing Jerusalem’s glorious restoration, tells of nations and kings who will come and “bring gold and frankincense and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord” (Isaiah 60:6).
