Merry Christmas! I look forward to saying it quite a bit over - TopicsExpress

Merry Christmas! I look forward to saying it quite a bit over the next month. Christmas, the celebration of Christ’s birth. Exchanging gifts, for me, is a symbolic reminder of the gift from God he represents…..Love. Eternal love. So if this is the case. If Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birth and the gift He represents, which is God’s Love and the expression of it through eternal life then we need to be sure we express our salutations in that same manner. With Love. It is frustrating to see all the removals of Christmas from this time of year. Holiday this and holiday that. Court room battles over what to call a school program and what songs can or can’t be sung. I cringe at Black Friday and the mad dash to spread dollar after dollar to “prove” our love. The poor cashiers having to stand there for hours on end saying “happy holidays” because their boss says so. But what makes me cringe even more is when a militant in line says “NO MORE! IT’S MERRY CHRISTMAS” with a snarl and a stomp of the foot. They might even add a curse word or two just to drive the point home. I don’t like “happy holidays” any more than the next person. But I do know this, my witness at the point of purchase will have a much better chance of being received if it is given as a gift. Christ came into our world not with an angry shout or with glitz and glitter. He was delivered quietly in a stable. Yes the angels did sing, and Heaven rejoiced but I don’t think it was with angry red faces and fingers wagging. So let’s make sure we deliver His good news in greeting the same way He greeted the world. Quietly, with dignity, regardless of surrounding. Look each other in the eye, smile, smile with your whole being, open your mouth and say “Merry Christmas. I hope you have a good day.” Converse with them for a brief moment. Let your interaction with them be the bright spot they think about during a break, over a meal. Take advantage of those “happy holidays” moments to have a positive impact in someone’s life. Be Christmas to them in the middle of their “happy holiday days.” Merry Christmas to each and every one of you!
