Merry Christmas, everybody! Though I come from a mixed family of Jews, agnostics, atheists, Catholics and Christian Mystics, we come together today to celebrate life, and birth, and family, and to spend a few days meditating on generosity and kindness. This year, we are making a family donation to an organization called The Working World, which supports democratic worker-owned cooperatives in the Americas. My little brother (not very little, really), who is a brilliant and compassionate soul, worked in Nicaragua this past year and developed an interest in this organization. As he puts it, its good when the people who work for a company also own the company, because then they invest all the profits in their own community and make it stronger and more sustainable, and then theres no need for charity or aid. Its just a better economic model, and studies show that it is, and you should listen to science. If youve got any money hanging around, please take a minute to peruse their website. If this isnt your thing, take a few more minutes to decide who in the world could use five bucks - or fifty, or a thousand - better than you can. Remember: money is just money. If youre reading this message, you probably have enough of it. And if you dont have a dollar to spare this year, go give somebody a hug, or make an overdue apology, or a cup of tea, or a joke. Weve all got gifts, and it feels good to give them. GO GIVE THE GIFTS YOUVE GOT! With love and gratitude, Carsie theworkingworld.org/us/about-us/
