Merry Christmas, everyone. Some folks have been posting their Christmas wishes, and Ive had one on my mind for a while now, and thought Id share it with you tonight. As many of you know, outside of the theatre, my main passion for many years has been genealogical research - family history exploration and everything that comes with it. As I see all of these awesome posts with so many of us visiting with relatives - Id like to encourage us all to do what we can to document the stories of our loved ones - blood relatives and otherwise: whoever is family to you. Take a half-hour, grab your uncle and sit down with a video camera or a tape recorder (or a pad, or an open mind) and learn what you can. It might not be your most pressing interest at the moment, but - my years of research have led me to an overwhelming awareness of how quickly memories fade and an entire human existence becomes summarized in a drawers worth of documents/photos/memories - or less. Grab the family photo albums and have your eldest designate identify those pictured, as you scribble down the names. Or, perhaps, its time to write down or share *your* stories. Its so worth it. Preserve what you can and pass it along - Im certain that someone, someday, will be exceedingly grateful that you took the time. Heres to a wonderful holiday, all!
