Merry Christmas to all our loved ones who are serving or have served overseas. I just found out last night that this song was written in 1943 with our overseas WWII soldiers in mind. The lyrics will forever have a new meaning for me. From now on, I will visualize my dad in the South Pacific longing for home as it was released while he was serving there. The song was originally turned down by the record companies for being too sad and melancholy, but Bing Crosby agreed to record it when the writer sang it to him during a round of golf... which once again proves that most major deals are sealed on the golf course... especially if your name was Bing Crosby. https://m.youtube/watch?v=dL71eMc1blw
